Starcraft 2 to be a Trilogy

Fresh from Blizzcon this weekend comes the announcement that Starcraft II will be split into three separate campaigns.  According to various reports, this will allow the developers to fully flesh out the story that they wish to tell with Starcraft II.

The first campaign will be Starcraft II Terrans: Wings of Liberty.

Multiplayer lovers need not fear though, as Blizzard has said that each campaign will ship with the full multiplayer, including all three races.

No release date was given, however it is widely speculated that each campaign will likely be released in one-year intervals.

I knew Blizz was going to drop some sort of bombshell at Blizzcon, they always do. Honestly wouldn't be surprised if the next event they hold had them announcing Warcraft 4, or that Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2 are going to consoles (God forbid). At any rate, as long as all three versions are standard Blizzard quality I'm not going to complain. But if they think I'm paying full price for three separate games they are sorely mistaken. One maybe, but the other two would just be expansion packs, really.

Each installment will be at least as long as the original(25-35 missions) and is said to take about 20 hours to complete.

My personal thoughts? This is a money leech. I really wish games would stop doing this crap. "We're going to release the game in installments". a.k.a. "We're going to release a partially finished game and you're going to pay full price".

This started with Dot Hack, and only continued from there... The worst one was probably Gears of War... While it was a great game, it really pissed me off that there was a total of about 3 hours of game play.

We'll see what kind of crap blizz pulls with this, but given their track record lately, I'm not expecting a whole lot.

Yeah well according to you Mal, Blizz can't do anything right ;). It IS a money leech though, but I can't remember Blizz ever releasing a game that wasn't worth it. If each "episode" is as long or longer than the original (20-30 hours) I don't mind. It's better than wasting 50 bucks on a game that only takes 10 hours to beat :)

I really enjoyed the Starcraft series. If they stay true to form, this will be a must buy.
