Battle.net 2.0 features

battle.net

Battle.net hasn’t been upgraded much since it first came out. Blizzard have promised a new and improved version of Battle.net (2.0) that will coincide with the introduction of Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3.

Below is the confirmed feature list (source: DIII):

* Excellent Ping
* Channels and Chat in game
* Ladders and Rankings, secured against cheating.
* Extended stats, with possibility to see who D/C etc
* AMM-type Matchmaking
* Avatars, Images and Icons to represent yourself
* Diablo III Hardcore mode
* Friends/Ignore Lists with advanced management
* Clan Support
* Automated Tournaments

In addition, there’s plenty of rumors regarding an Achievements system, Accountability (to track cheaters and those who use hacks) and Voice Over IP in-game chat.

Sounds exciting! Just interesting to note how it says "that will coincide with the introduction of Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3". Sounds to me like they're releasing both at the same time, which doesn't sound right..

Actually Gnomar, think about it, it does sound right and it makes sense. Blizzard announced a release date for Wrath of the Lich King, almost 2 months in advance. When have they ever done that? Usually its 4 - 6 weeks in advance tops.

Don't forget, Blizzard is now "owned" by Activision, well, they "merged" but I think we all know who is wearing the pants in that relationship.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if SC2 and D3 have very close release dates, maybe 4 weeks apart. Look at how quickly Activision pumps out games. GHIII came out and then GHIII:Aerosmith and now 12 weeks (?) after Aerosmith we have GHIV:World Tour and then at Christmas we'll have GHIII:Metallica.

I think that Activision likes to push their games out since they have to compete with an ever expanding EA Games. I noticed the other day that Clue had EA on it?? When did EA buy Parker Brothers?

I just figured that WotLK's release date was announced early to create some hubub to compete with Warhammer.

So long as Blizzard continues to release Blizzard-quality games, I don't care how fast they pump it out. The reality of the situation is that we don't really know how long they've been working on SC2 and D3.

SC2 is in a pre-beta stage right now.
the new battle.net is for SC2. The D3 sites are saying Diablo will follow after SC2, but no one knows "how soon" it will follow.

Yep, as soon as information as to how one might be able to obtain beta access, I'm all over it!
